Music I listen to

I have eclectic tastes. Sometimes I like stuff that everyone likes, and other times, I become attached to some strange sounds.

Books that moved me

Fruitless Fall by Rowan Jacobson. Read all about Colony Collapse Disorder of our domestic honeybees. This book inspired me to order bees this spring. Me with thousands of stinging insects! What could possibly go wrong?

Right now I am reading Our Forgotten Pollinators. It was published in 1997. Its a very interesting read. I thought it would be a good reference for understanding the loss of our bats, moths and butterflies in addition to bees.

Interesting facts about me

I like to find weird stuff online. I say weird stuff, but really I mean cool weird stuff online.

Things have been slowly getting better. Lots of hard work in that respect. Glad to hear you are back in school. With some help, I figured out a lot of things.

The account went all wonky when everything switched over to Yuku. So I dumped it and started over. It took me forever to get this fixed as well.

Groovy quotes

People are like stained-glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in their true beauty is revealed only if there is light from within.~Elisabeth Kübler-Ross

Turn your face to the sun and the shadows fall behind you. ~Maori Proverb

The black moment is the moment when the real message of transformation is going to come. At the darkest moment comes the light. ~Joseph Campbell

Beauty is not in the face; beauty is a light in the heart. ~Kahlil Gibran

Say not, "I have found the truth," but rather, "I have found a truth." Say not, "I have found the path of the soul." Say rather, "I have met the soul walking upon my path." For the soul walks upon all paths. The soul walks not upon a line, neither does it grow like a reed. The soul unfolds itself, like a lotus of countless petals. ~Kahlil Gibran, The Prophet, 1923

There is no other world. I only know what I have experienced. You must be hallucinating. Jalal al-Din Mohammed Rumi. Wean Yourself. pp71 The Essential Rumi.

  1. Finished the Fence! YEA!

    11/12/09 06:28:36 | 1 Comments

We strung about 300 ft of fence yesterday. It was very tedious work. Now all we have to do is get rid of our surplus of roosters. Those beasts are obnoxious. And finally, avoid reading the idiocy that passes for journalism these days, so that I will not develop a migraine from all the stupidity being transmitted into the airwaves and over the internet.

Fact Checking? Research? What are those things?
  2. The Ambiguities of "Wisdom."

    11/09/09 17:36:17 | 0 Comments

Confucious Say, "Boot to the Head!" you know that shit that ought to be on a tacky tee shirt somewhere or on a bumper sticker. Its cute. I used to have a button back in the 80's "Survey Says, Go Fuck Yourself." A lovely sentiment. Wise? Well I suppose that would depend on who you were saying it to and the context of that conversation. Remember that saying, "Those Who Can't Do, Teach." What an awful thing to say about a teacher or to a teacher. No doubt...
  3. Almost done with the Fence

    11/08/09 18:20:07 | 0 Comments

That will help to some degree with the idiot-neighbor-dog problem. Thats the problem with living in a rural area. Some dingaling moves out here and thinks, "We done moved out to da cuntry and we dont gots to tie our dawgs up."

Uh whatever. These dogs have menaced me several times on my own property. We don't normally fence our birds, because where we live, there is a leash law. I know that may be hard to believe for ma and pa kettle but there it is.

    And I have...
  4. Neighbor's Mean Dogs

    11/05/09 09:53:11 | 0 Comments

I really despise it when people who keep mean dogs, and then turn them loose. They are a disaster waiting to happen. It's irresponsible, and the worst part is that such animals often hurt other people's pets, wildlife and people even. Sometimes they maul children.

  5. There was shit for TV tonight

    11/04/09 20:18:53 | 0 Comments

I do like to unwind a bit and vegetate. But I also have standards. I ended up watching part of the Banger Sisters. That movie cracks me up. Especially when those two are down in the basement looking through old polaroids of penii---that belonged to rock stars-[and a few roadies] HA! In some ways I hate the internet. Its ruined all that glorious fun. You can do stuff like that, but chances are it will end up on Youtube or worse. Those poor teaching students that lost any chance of a job due to...
  6. The Benefits of getting Older

    11/03/09 08:41:43 | 0 Comments

I don't feel desparate to prove myself to others. That is such a wonderful feeling. Remember when you were young, and you felt the need to one-up everyone else? You had that raw aching need to compete, or else you might be left out, or perceived as ineffective?

There will come a time when you have so much on your plate, that running to make more work for yourself will seem like a great way to overload yourself. That by not speaking up, you might be ignored and yet avoid the...
  7. Hard Cider and Wasabe Peas

    11/01/09 02:53:02 | 0 Comments

What a combo. Those Wasabe Peas are addictive.

  8. Spectral Evidence

    10/23/09 07:59:15 | 0 Comments

    Rumors are like Spectral Evidence.

They are difficult to counteract, because you almost never see who utters them, and rarely even know what motivates people to spread them. That person being like a ghost who passes through your life unseen, leaving their words behind as proof of some secret knowledge.

Rumors are sabotage. They are the spineless way to take a perceived enemy down. They are convenient. No one gets dirty except maybe...
  9. Highway Idiocy

    10/17/09 09:11:23 | 0 Comments

I just saw this story on CBS News. Basically it's a rant by a reporter who would like to see America create an Autobahn System in the U.S. like the ones in Europe. And he is going on and on about people driving slow in the left lane, or at least slower than he would like.

Yes, I too have experienced this. There are a multitude of passive-aggressive drivers...
